Words are an important component of effective leadership, even more so during times of crisis. For some excellent guidelines on the topic, read Carmine Gallo’s article in the Harvard Business Review about crisis communication: “Finding the Right Words in a Crisis”. 
 
It’s well worth the read, with practical and interesting references to people (Cuomo, Churchill, Roosevelt, Fauci and Birx), neuroscience, and the origins of words.
